Directions: Read the following passages and answer the questions that follow.

PASSAGE 1:

A Solution
The city has had over forty-three auto accidents in the last six months. Forty of these accidents occurred at intersections. Mike Beverly lost his twelve-year-old daughter last week when a driver hit her. The driver claimed he couldn't see her because it was so dark outside.

Earlier this year, another accident occurred at a different intersection for a similar reason. Luckily, that victim was not killed and only suffered minor injuries. Most of the accidents at the intersections occur because people are not aware that they must stop. Often, the people who are responsible for these accidents are from out of town and not familiar with the neighborhood. They simply so not see the stop signs posted at these intersections. More signal lights would reduce the number of accidents.

PASSAGE 2:

A Fantastic Nightvision Sale
Come one, come all! This Saturday only, Don's Nightvision Outlet is having a blowout sale on some of its finest merchandise. Buy the XL-401 with its patented spic-swinger double-action joint. Or maybe the TNT-51 is more your taste? I can't blame you! Who could live without the electric hue converter? So come on down this Saturday to Don's Nightvision Outlet on Route 6.

And remember what Don always says, "Seeing in the dark is fantastic!"
